Today, was the worst day ever, well the best too because we got to hang out with ms kerrigan, but she haded to move to a different school. we are all going to really miss her so much.by; noemi pena summer school.

Tae Kwon Doe by Jason

for enrichment I had tae kwon doe with cristina Jason m Jerimiah Joryi Enderson other people and we were learning cool techniques and moves against enemie.we were using these paddles to hit or kick and we keep on practicing on it to test our skills or ability to defend ourselves.we were learning to not get sliced buy a knife or get hurt by any type of weapon like guns or any type of weapon. 

and we got like red belts black belt and others and i wasn’t in enrichment most of the time so yea this is my story

Dancing Learner by Miss Kerrigan

Dancing Learner

I look up and he is seated,
but movin',

Dancing in his seat,
headphones on.

Sharing he taught Mom about yesterday's lesson.
Eager to grasp the complexity he combats daily.

Emerson College Trip by Noemi

Last year on a Friday, I went to Emerson college with Frances, and half of the Up Academy Oliver middle school kids. It was really fun. We got to see some sculptures and cameras.We saw a studio to make shows and dramas; we took some pictures of all of the things we saw. It was pretty amazing! Then, we went to visit the music studio to listen to its music. It was really awesome to do all of those things.

Next, we went to a movie theater that belonged to the college. As we went, our tour guide told us why we had to move there. The reason that we had to move there was because one of the people that were part of our tour wanted to visit the theater. Even though I don't know exactly how to put the movie on the big screen, we learned a little on how the in the movie theater works. We saw how they send the movie to each other on the computers when they are playing the movie. After, we looked at cool old cameras. They showed us a camera with a hood that you put around your head; then you can start to take the pictures. We saw two book stores from far away. One was a long way down and the other one was near. We went inside the bookstore closest to us, and there were a lot of amazing things that we had never seen before. 

Finally, we went to the sky box, to eat lunch. The sky box was awesome. There was also a basket ball court there for us to watch. Lunch was pizza, juice, and cookies. It  was so delicious. Then, we had to go home. But before we walked to the bus as whole group, went to the bookstore again. There was t-shirts, water bottles, little stuffed bears and also hats that say: EMERSON COLLEGE RULES! I was going to buy one, but i didn't have any money to buy it. Finally we left to school to go home.It was a great day.

New Hampshire Trip by Odalys

It was June 10, 2014 and every one had bags and suit cases and some nice clothes. We had all gone to the library and got into own groups. After we got into our groups we went outside to the bus, put our stuff in the back and got into the bus. Then, we stared driving. It was gonna be a long ride. 

So, then the teacher gave us some snacks there were good. After like 1 hour we had been allmost there. Then we got there it was so nice and big. We then got off the bus, went in and went in this room where we put our stuff in till we get our roommates. Then, this worker came and told us her name and all the informasion then after she told us everything we needed to know. We  had lunch witch was a sandwitch. After we ate, more workers came in and told us some things about them like there name and where they were from and ones they did that they had started telling us what groups we are in. And once they called our name they made us do animal sounds. 

Once we found out our groups we went to seperet rooms. And the person we had for the day told us what we were going to do and her name was Tara. She was nice. So next we had went out side talked about the map. Then went hiking. It was fun because it was my first time hiking. So we played some games. When we were all going up we saw some cool things like a bridge, water fall. It was cool then after the whole hike we had gone back and got to get  our rooms and roommates. After that we had put our stuff down in the room and went back down stairs and went out side and there was a park there that we all played in. We also played some games in our groups. 
 After a long day of hiking, playing on the bus, we had gone back inside and went to go eat dinner. The dinner was not as good but it was ok. But wen we got dessert, oh my GOSH! It was cake and it was so good. So after we ate we went to our rooms and put away our stuff and we took a shower, got ready too go to bed then we went to bed and woke up at 6:30 in the morning. We got ready and went down to our group then we played outside. After ten minutes we had gone back inside and ate breakfast. After breakfast we went outside, got ready to go hiking. We went hiking to the elephant head. While hiking up we stopped and talked about nature and we went up to the elephant head which is this rock on top of the hill where you can see everything it was beautiful. We also ate lunch up there. We hiked back down and while waking down I fell and scraped my knee. Our teacher Tera had put a bandage on it and then we kept hiking down. 

After we went down we had gone back to the place where we were staying, started packing our stuff everyone put all their stuff in one room. Then we played some games outside. We went to the park that was there and took a group picture. After ten minutes we went back inside and got to shop at the sore they had there after everyone got what they wanted we had got our stuff and took it outside. We had stayed outside for about five minutes then the bus came to pick us up. We had put our stuff in the back of the bus and got in. We had started driving, in the bus there had been an incedent and about an hour and a half later we had gone back to school and went home. 

Dunkaroos by Frances

My favorite day at Up Academy Oliver was when we tried "dunkaroos".  It's kind of like handy snacks, a snack you can dip into. It has frosting and you can take graham crackers to dip it. On Tuesday July 15, I gave the recipe to my teacher Ms. Kerrigan so that she could make them for the class. This is how to make them. The ingredients you will need are: graham crackers, cool whip, Pillsbury fun-fetti cake mix and vanilla yogurt. The frosting is made out of 3 parts fun-fetti cake mix, 2 parts vanilla yogurt, and 1 part cool whip; then stir it . Then, put it in the fridge until it's cool. After, take your graham crackers, teddy grahams or animal crackers and dip it into the frosting and enjoy. 

 On Thursday July 17, my friends and I tried it during our break and we enjoyed it thanks to Ms. Kerrigan and I. I told my best friend forever (bff) Noemi that there are also chocolate dunkaroos, so maybe I'll make those too another day. I'm planning on making "dunkaroos" at my house. That was my favorite day at Up Academy Oliver.

Academic Night by Bianca

On the night that we finished our MCAS was academic night where the girls have to wear dresses and the boys have to wear suits. Then when we entered the cafe there was ice cream, and there were stuff on the table about science there was dry ice, a density blaster, the weather rap, and our solar systems from our projects that we did with our partners. In my project my partners name was Yeimi and we did "Mars, The Red Planet." When we did our projects both of us had to write three Paragraphs about what we learned about the planet.Then their was a slideshow of all of the students that had worked so hard in 2013 and 2014 then when the academic night was almost over Ms. Mercado was talking to my mom and said that I'm a good student and I had worked so hard this year then my friend Franshely told me to take a picture with her with hearts on pencils in the cafe. 

Plants are plants-by Enderson

I like eating chicken, but I don't like when they treat their animals bad. I don't know because when I see an animal getting treat bad I get angry. So, if I had a farm, I wouldn't treat the animals bad so they have good protein, they eat healthy, and I wouldn't do the thing that people do to hurt them.

We went into the garden today.

 Here I am writing my poem about what I saw in the garden.

Plants are like hair because it grows from the roots. Plants are like girls, you need to treat them right. And you have to treat it right and take care of it like a baby. So the plants they have different colors than hair so thats not the same. They live outside and not in your body. You have to take care of them and treat them right so that when you're gonna eat them you won't get sick.

Plants have different colors than hair. Hair don't have green, red, or yellow, only black or brown. But plants have all the colors you could imagine in the whole world. Plant is the most beautiful thing I see. Plants make you stronger. Plants help you breathe and think.

I think going to the garden was awesome because I learned what plants need for you to do to them and what makes you healthy from them. How do they grow? How do they get stronger? Plants are plants.

Square Ledge by Jet

We arrived at the White Mountains and we were greeted by a group of people that worked for the Appalachian Mountain Club. When we got off the bus we ate lunch and we were introducing ourselves to our leaders. We got settled into our rooms and we hiked to Square Ledge.

Square Ledge looked like a giant boulder that fell from the sky in the shape of a square. 

It was a rock with a lot of layers. It has maybe at least 25 layers that looked like white and gray lines. When we got to the top of square ledge, we looked down on the AMC lodge (Joe Dodge Lodge) and it looked like an ant house. We saw the cars parked in the parking lot that looked like ants! When we were coming down from the Square Ledge, we had to slide on the rocks that were on the trail to get down because it was raining. I was telling people in our group where the loose rocks were. There was a big glob of quartz that we found. It looks like fools gold. 

The next day, we went to Lost Pond. When we got to Lost Pond, we sat on a giant rock which was flat. There we ate snack silently. We heard birds chirping and water washing along the side of the rock. This sounded peaceful. When we were walking back from Lost Pond, I twisted my ankle so we went onto a little platform that was made out of loose rocks and I put the foot that I twisted my ankle into the mountain water and it felt like I put ice under 0*F on my foot! 

After that, I found a rock that broke in half which had this silvery material inside. It was like a silver liquid. The leader of the group told me it was a rare rock that was never seen before. When the silver liquid dropped into the water, it disappeared instantly. It turned clear. 

When we came back from the white mountains i went home and told my mom every thing.

The Weather Man Rap By Joryi

In science class this year we learned about the weather with our teacher Mr.Lane. Mr. Lane found an interesting video online of a man rapping about the weather. The man rapping had on black glasses and a microphone and started to rap. I though the rap song was cool and sounded like regular rap music. This is one way that Mr. Lane made Science fun in his class. It was really funny when Mr. Lane began rapping along with the video and he knew every word. Everyone in the classroom started dancing. The weather man was rapping about the clouds and the sun.  The music and doing the beats the rapper had was soo cool and video finished and the is the end of science class.

Learning by Enderson UP Academy Oliver

Every time I think of UP Academy I think of learning and of the best teachers. Miss Kerrigan shows us English. I like this school because it is challenging and I like challenging stuff. English is very challenging, but the best thing that's ever happened in my lief. I'm in a country where everything is with English so if I don't know English, everything will be difficult for me.

I was supposed to go to summer school, but I forgot I had it. I came the next day though. On the day I missed school, my mom told me to read a book or write something. So I took a book that is, "The Hunger Games". There was a difficult word that took almost 20 minutes to figure it out. It started with a "b" but I didn't know what it meant. So, I thought about it in my head and imagined the story so far. What would the word be for this person? I used the words around it. Then, when I looked it up on google, it was the same thing that I thought it was.

I realized that learning is good because what happens if some day someone says a word that's really, really important and you don't know what it means. What will you do that time? So that's why it's good to learn and try your best to do something.
